Missing Mark and Nordstrom

Several days ago I went back into Nordstrom to pick up a suite they were tailoring for me.

One thing which is very consistent with the majority of the staff in Nordstrom is they “want to know.”

They ask your first name, then they will ask what you do for a lively hood and whether they really are or not, they at least outwardly show interest in who you are and what you do for a living.

What does this have to do with you?

Well, bottom line is MOST small business owners act as if they do not care either way anything about you … UNLESS you show interest in buying what they are selling.

You know, this is where small business owners are missing the mark.

What if. What if you began speaking with people, even if you knew they could not do anything for you. What would happen in your business?

You see, there are many times Lindy and I invest time speaking with complete strangers we sense have no need or want for our products and or services. but, But, BUT it amazes us every time ... how the time invested with people we “believe” can not do anything for us, brings business because they know someone, who knows someone who wants what we have.

Try it. Start getting to really know people (strangers).

P.S. Go rent the movie “Patch Adams” (with Robin Williams), and pay attention to the part where “Patch” and his friend set out to meet complete strangers, I bet this will get your possibility juices flowing.
