Today I want to talk about banner advertising.

Banner advertising isn't what it was when it first came out many years ago. The concept was novel and prospects were intrigued by the banners and their messages.

Those days are LONG gone.

We have become almost numb to banners, especially if they still look like the dull pieces of work of yesteryear. But that doesn't mean that banner advertising is dead. Far from it.

In today's age, those who come up with unique banner designs, and even shapes, get the prospect's attention.

One way of doing this is to actually have an opt in form embedded in your banner. Another way is to drastically alter the shape of your banner. Not everything has to be a rectangle these days with the graphic technology that we have.

Make your banners scream out. That means be outrageous if you have to. Controversy sells, so make your banner controversial if you can.

Banners that are not the norm, in appearance, get noticed.

Then, after they get noticed, the key to getting them clicked on is to have a headline that really grabs the prospect's attention.
This is where knowing something about copywriting comes in real handy. We'll cover copywriting in a later issue of this series.

Point is, banner advertising is NOT dead. Those who think outside the box can do very nicely with banner ads. No, they're still not as effective as other sources of advertising and I wouldn't waste too much time on it, but a few well designed banners can bring a decent amount of traffic to your site.

What are my interests and what products can be offered in that area?

Do I know enough about these products to provide this service?

Have I done enough research to make sure that I can compete with my competitors?

Do I know where I will find customers?

What can I offer people that they are in need of?

Be sure to take plenty of time on this exercise.
Write down every question you can possibly think of an answer. Once you have done this, you will have a good idea whether or not your business plan can work or not.

Now take your business plan and come up with some creative ideas to give your product or service a unique selling point (USP).

You want to be able to brand your product and make it unforgettable. Look over the following list of questions and answer them to help you find your unique selling point.

1. What is the main purpose of your company?

2. What makes your product different or better than the competitors?

3. What is the purpose of your product or service?

4. What need does your product or service fill that makes it unique?

5. Why are you the obvious choice of companies for people to choose for your products or services?

Is what you have to offer going to give your customer value for their money? Is your offer enticing enough to get someone to spend their hard earned money on it? Do you feel your product will fill a need for your customer?

Now take time to look through all your ideas for products and services, your business goals, business plan and your unique selling points.

As you look through everything you've written down, you should be able to come to the conclusion of whether or not your business ideas are viable.
Once you have made the decision to go ahead with your Internet business, don't put it off.

Start right away and before you know it, you won't have to face the daily grind of your job anymore.

Start Building More Long-term Traffic To Your Sites

As an internet marketer, I've tried just about every known way to get traffic to my websites. And to be quite honest, most of what "marketing" is all about is getting people to see your offer.

Once they see it, your gears switch from marketing to sales. So when we think about internet marketing, it's really "how can we get more and more people to see our offer?" From there, our mindset should change from thinking as an internet marketer to thinking as an internet salesman.

I think that's why starting an online business is a lot harder than a lot of people make it out to be. Let's be honest... It's
tough to get people to your website. Traffic doesn't just happen
over night. Once the visitors start coming... well, then the sales part is a breeze. It's the "internet marketing" part that can be difficult and downright discouraging.

I've been doing this online thing full-time for over 4 years now, and I've literally tried just about every single traffic-generating strategy you can think of. Aside from joint ventures (and that is usually just a quick, short-term burst of traffic), the single best way to get long-term traffic is through the search engines.

The idea behind article marketing is that you write an article on a similar topic to your website, add a link inside the article that points to your website, submit that article to several of the biggest article directories online, and then sit back and watch how well-dispersed those links become across the internet.

So the next thing I did was I hired a writer to do it for me. It took me a really long time to find a good, quality writer I could trust... and once I did, I was spending an arm and a leg.

After several months of programming, adding all of the features that I personally needed, and then doing fine-tune tweaking even further, I started using my own software to rewrite individual articles into literally hundreds of other UNIQUE articles.

The end result: I only had to spend a few minutes to produce loads of quality and unique content that I could submit to article directories.

Newbie Advice Round #2

Some more great information for those newbies.

Communications - Now some marketers love their auto-responders, and nothing wrong with them. Personally myself I prefer the old school way and send the emails when the notion hits me. Either way is fine though and you should try both ways to see what is best for you. Just remember when communicating with members or your list to send emails every so often that have nothing to do with sales of a product. Email them a normal hello how are you doing today email. Nothing says I care more than an email asking your members how they are doing, trust me it works wonders.

Profits - When you start making a profit make sure to always take a % of that and put it back into your site. Maybe purchase some advertising, or maybe do an upgrade of your site, add more fresh content to your site, and etc. It is very important for long term success to always take a certain % and set it aside for your site.

Pay It Forward - When you get stable and start generating a decent income then it is time to give a little back. In the last few months I have purchased a ceiling fan and shipped it to germany for someone, sent $55 to someone else by paypal, sent another person $200 by paypal, A little girl need school cloths and materials so I went to wal-mart picked up some stuff boxed it up and shipped it out, I have used a pre-paid credit card and purchased a 2 pizza's for 2 other people that live in another state because they was hungry. Now I dont say this to boast or anything, I am just a regular guy and nobody special. Point here is though to help out others when you are able to do so.

There are still many more things but it is my hopes that these advice post will help the newbies more.

My first attempt at such a service was XXXXX.net.
I was sure it would take off just as fast -- but it didn't.

The problem with YYYY.net is that people didn't seem to grasp the concept. Plus there were issues with the code working on some web sites, etc.

But I knew it was a 100% winner concept, and so I've been thinking over the last few months how to create a true one-way links network that would be easier for the individual user to setup than XXXXX.net was, while still giving all of the fantastic benefits.

THE SOLUTION
============

Thus One Way Links is born. It's a network designed to work with WordPress blogs, thus taking all of the work away from the individual webmaster.

Here's how it works:

1) You create an account.

2) You setup a WordPress blog on one of your sites and
configure that blog in your Thus One Way Links account. The
blogs can be brand new. It doesn't even have to be
indexed in Google yet (that's because Google LOVES
blogs and indexes them fast once they start to send
out pings).

3) Once the blog is verified to be working with Thus One Way Links,
you submit one or more blog posts that will appear
on the number of blogs you specify in the network.
The blog posts can contain up to 3 hyperlinks, so
you can link out to the pages you want, with the
keywords you want.

It's that simple. WordPress does all of the heavy lifting for you, so there's no code to fiddle with. Thus One Way Links uses the XMLRPC publishing protocols built into WordPress to automate creating the blog posts.

Each month you're giving a quota of how many blogs your
post(s) can appear on. At first it will be 100 blogs, but that number will rise as more blogs are added to the network. I expect the quota to peak at 250 "post credits" per month.

This means that each month you'll be able to get anywhere from 300 to 750 one-way, in-bound links from a diverse network of blogs across the planet.

With that many links aimed wherever you want, you could easily rank a lot of web sites on page one of Google.
